I figured a new thread was necessary since it's a whole other beast, for now it a paper launch but isn't difficult to believe! With the standard GTX 470 already at 215WTDP double that figure and you have 430WTDP with two 8-pin PCI-E connectors, Nvidia is breaking new records here for power consumption! Can you imagine running two of these cards in SLI?!!? One things for sure, a full coverage water block will have to be massive to cover the entire card! I do believe that this card will outperform ATI's HD 5970 at least in DX11 games, I guess we'll have to wait and see. ATI's HD 5970 is being targeted here!

We'll hit the pause button on all the power-sipping tablet talk for a moment to show you NVIDIA's maddest and baddest beast yet. This is a dual GeForce GTX 470 card, meaning that two Fermi dies reside on the same board, along with the necessary circuitry and an apparently beefed up apportionment of GDDR5 RAM as well. Measuring in at 12 inches long, this prototype is being shown off at Computex by add-in board partner Galaxy -- probably just to prove that the mammoth undertaking is even possible. You'll be forgiven for mistaking it for one of 3dfx's final ill-fated productions, and with a requirement for two 8-pin power connectors and a doubling of the standard 470's 215W TDP, this dualie card sure looks set for a similar future of pretty pictures and no retail viability. All the same, if you happen to have a nuclear reactor and a wind farm in your backyard, this could be just the GPU for you.

Wonder what it looks like with the cooler on?

You wouldn't double the 215 figure. By sharing some of the same circuitry you'll get some power savings. The reviews of the GTX465 show us however that the 215 figure might not be 100% accurate? By disabling cores and adjusting frequencies I knew they could come out with this if they wanted. The question is how much do they disable, and how much power will it consume?

Edited because I hit submit to soon.

This type of card is for the same people that can afford somtheing like this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102895&cm_re=5970_4gb-_-14-102-895-_-Product $1,229.99

This will also dump all its heat in to your case, but I don't think enthusiasts will mind much.
The power as mentioned is less than 2 way sli, thanks to sharing/efficiency of the VRM.
The 4gb 5970 pulled 490 watts o/c as shown here :246 idle 736 o/c load

Will the gtx 490 beat that ? In either performance and/or power ?

Might as well setup a sauna in the middle of a Texas summer when there is a front from off the Gulf (no need for heat just add steam) and have this to compliment. 30-35c in the shade just to scale for those who live outside the US.

Right now we're getting bathed in toxic rain thanks to the crap that BP/Dutch Royal Shell is spraying and the volatile compounds that are getting carried by the weather.
